About the Role

Individuals who are detail oriented and aren't afraid of taking a different approach to an average project. Our expanding consulting firm is in search of a Director of Electrical Engineering. We are seeking someone who is proficient in designing electrical systems for buildings and facilities. This includes expertise in power distribution, lighting, life safety systems, instrumentation, and controls. The role involves conducting comprehensive electrical analyses, encompassing short circuit, load calculations, time-current coordination, and related calculations using ETAP. As a leader in the firm, the Director will have to coordinate with other disciplines, utilities, and owners as well as manage engineers and technical designers (3+ years minimum of management experience preferred). This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, a PE registration (Arizona preferred but not required), and 8+ years of experience in the field. Experience with industrial and mission critical facilities is a plus.


  • Have the knowledge to identify project areas (area program, types per IECC area categories)

  • Specify lighting fixtures by area including emergency/exits (complete fixture schedule)

  • Identify any lighting demolition scope on plans

  • Determine power scope by area, equip. loads (MPOA), and est loads per sf where necessary

  • Determine power, voltage, metering, point(s) of connection, assumptions (equipment, by sf, or typical data)

  • Locate electrical equipment on plans with tags

  • Complete Division 26 and 28 electrical specifications (book or sheet)

  • Request and prepare lighting photometric plan (interior and/or exterior)

  • Backcheck and review engineering drawings for complex deliveries

  • Identify any generator or UPS requirements

  • Identify electrical underground scope, locations, duct bank specifications, floor boxes

  • Full understanding of Division 26 and 28 electrical specifications

  • Note any fire protection systems (pre-action, dry agent, VESDA, sprinkler)

  • Identify fire alarm requirements by area

  • Review basis for fire alarm system, type, class, wiring methods assumptions

  • Multitasking several different projects of different scales and electrical needs


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
